The benefits of garlic are many, good for skin health, caring for facial beauty, nails, hair, even for pregnant women. Although useful, pregnant women should not consume excessive garlic because it can cause various side effects.

Launching from Health Line, there are some side effects to keep in mind when consuming large amounts of garlic during pregnancy .
One of them can increase the risk of bleeding.

This side effect can occur in pregnant and non-pregnant people. It's important to keep this in mind if you're taking blood-thinning medications or planning to have surgery.

The increased risk of bleeding may come from the sulfur compound known as ajoene in garlic. Ajoene has been shown to inhibit the formation of platelets. Platelets are tiny blood cells that help the body form clots to stop bleeding. Thus, eating large amounts of garlic may increase the risk of bleeding during labour, especially if it is performed by cesarean section.

In addition, eating garlic can cause heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy, especially if you have acid reflux disease (GERD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Pregnancy can increase the risk of heartburn, possibly due to a combination of hormonal changes and the physical stresses of a growing fetus. For some pregnant women, heartburn symptoms may be triggered or exacerbated by eating large amounts of garlic. In fact, consuming garlic can provide various benefits during pregnancy, such as reducing the risk of infection and spontaneous premature birth, and preventing preeclampsia. There is no official recommendation on how much garlic to eat. So, eating in sufficient quantities as a food flavoring is probably safe during pregnancy. However, it is best to consult a doctor before taking garlic supplements.
