What is the Deltacron Variant? This is what the researcher said

The delta variant accounted for the second wave of Covid-19 in India which triggered a large number of deaths. In a report by a well-known website, it is explained that Leondios Kostrikis, a professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus has named this combined variant as 'Deltacron.'

It is so named because its genetic characteristics are similar to that of the omicron and are present in the delta genome. According to the report, Kostrikis and his team have so far found 25 cases of the virus variant. So far it's unclear if there have been other cases of this variant or how much harm it could pose.

"At the same time, we will see in the future whether this strain is more infectious or will persist," said the researcher, reported by English Track Live, Sunday (9/1/2022).

In an interview with Sigma TV, the professor admitted to believing that there was more omicron transmission going on. The report reveals that the researchers submitted their results to GISAID this week. This is an international database that tracks viruses. The discovery of the 'Deltacron' variant comes at a time when the world is already plagued by omicron.

Currently, cases of the omicron variant are on the rise worldwide. Therefore, Covid-19 cases have also experienced a sharp increase throughout the world. A new variant of the coronavirus was also identified in France earlier this month.

So far, 46 mutations have been observed in this viral variant. According to scientists, this variant was first discovered in someone who traveled to the African country, Cameroon. The new variant has been named B.1,640.2.
