Sociology Expert Explains Causes of People Cheating

Having a loyal and loving partner is the dream of every married couple, especially if the relationship has been going on for a long time.

But sometimes there are things that cause family harmony to fade. One of them is adultery.

Dr. Sutinah, Dra., M.S. UNAIR family sociologist said cheating is an emotional and sexual activity that involves a partner in a committed relationship, by being dishonest and deviating from the norm.

"Cheating in sociology includes deviant behavior from prevailing norms, including religious, social, and other norms," he said quoted on the UNAIR website, Saturday (8/1/2022).

The Professor of FISIP UNAIR continued that there are several factors that trigger couples to cheat.

Both internal factors and external factors.

Internal factors are sourced from the perpetrators, such as psychological and biological. Meanwhile, external factors come from outside the actor, such as the environment or social conditions.

Some of them are:

1.Sex Needs

Prof. Tina said that human behavior that drives her to cheat is not small because she wants to feel different sexual and romantic variations with her partner.

Although sex is not the main factor, but it often happens. Perpetrators of cheating quibble because of the lack of satisfaction from the sex drive of the partner.

2.Not getting well-treated

"Cheating is also not only about sexual, but also emotional, maybe the perpetrator does not get emotional closeness with the partner, then there is an opportunity and the cheating partner sees it as an opportunity," he said.

Then the unnatural relationship continues, it feels less if one day does not meet with his mistress partner.

3.Try it

In a friendship environment, it often creates social class strata with indicators of having the courage to cheat.

The bolder and more diligent in cheating, the more accepted the cheater is to be a member of the group concerned.

"Sometimes they are considered to be friends who are pretentiously holy, the association of husband-husband groups is afraid of their wives, making the perpetrators compelled to try cheating to remove the label of being afraid of the wife," he added.

According to this sociology lecturer, when he is married and requires the husband to be far away from his wife. Actually there is a biological need that must be met.

"When he wants to have sex but is hindered by distance, he chooses the alternative to do it with other people," said Prof. Tina.

Prof. Tina said that before marriage there may not be an adjustment period, immediately the matchmaking stage.

6. Furthermore, there is one partner who feels uncomfortable.

''Furthermore, matchmaking related to socio-economic factors, it also has potential,'' said Prof Tina.

He emphasized that cheating is not only done by men, but also by women and the triggers of other social factors are still many.Therefore, various preventive ways can be done with effective communication.

"Even though you are already married, it doesn't mean that you have to have children, occasionally do qtime with your partner, communicated, you can also go for a walk like a courtship," he said.
