Crocodiles are carnivores and eat everything, such as small mammals, birds, fish, insects, frogs, other reptile species, and crustaceans. Wild crocodiles are profitable carnivores, able to eat any prey they catch, including humans.

  Crocodiles are opportunistic carnivores so they are comfortable eating dead animals or carrion .
The bigger the crocodile, the bigger the prey. According to the Journal of Herpetology, an alligator eats an average of 2-5 pounds of meat per day, or about 5% of its body weight per week.

According to research by the Center for Environmental Resources of Northern Australia, quoted by SINDOnews from the a-z-animals page, saltwater crocodiles are able to eat large wildebeest and even other crocodiles! Given the large number of crocodile species found around the world, their specific diet differs from region to region.

However, this does not change one simple fact that applies to all varieties of crocodiles: all are carnivores! Crocodiles will eat whatever they come across when hungry, such as Fish, Birds, Turtles, Frogs, Snakes, Boars, Reindeer, Sharks, Crustaceans like Crabs, Deer or other small hoofed mammals, baby Elephants or Rhinos

Crocodiles in captivity, such as in zoos or aquariums, eat a slightly different diet than wild crocodiles. No matter what, crocodile food is meat based, such as Rat, Raw Chicken, Raw Beef, and Fish.

In the wild, crocodiles pounce on their prey with their huge jaws, crush them, and swallow them whole.Crocodiles do not have the ability to chew or break small pieces of food like other animals.

To aid digestion, crocodiles swallow small stones that grind food in their stomachs. Thanks to their slow metabolism, crocodiles can survive for months without food. During the Mesozoic Era, about 100 million years ago, the order Crocodilia was one of the top animals in the food chain.
