China has commented on the killing of former Quds Force commander Major General Qassem Soleimani by the United States (US). According to Beijing, Washington has committed war crimes in the incident.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said Soleimani's assassination was an example of how the US recklessly undermined the norms governing international relations under the UN Charter .
"This is also one of the war crimes that the United States has committed with the abuse of force," he said at a press conference on Tuesday (4/1), quoted by the Fars News Agency website.
Wang strongly criticized the US killing of a military leader of a sovereign nation in a "terrorist" manner. This is a flagrant violation of international law. "All these illegal and brutal acts in the eyes of people around the world have been hidden by the US behind the facade of a 'rules-based international order' as it claims," he said.
According to Wang, instead of upholding the rules-based international order, the US has often been shown to only care about rules that meet its needs and interests. "But such a rule and order that violates international law will not be accepted by the people of Iran, the Middle East and the rest of the world," he said.
Iran has previously said the administration of US President Joe Biden was also responsible for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani. The attack on Soleimani actually occurred during the Donald Trump administration."Undoubtedly, the US criminal act of martyr general Soleimani is a clear manifestation of the organized and organized 'terrorist attack' by the then US administration, which is the responsibility of the White House now," Iran's Foreign Ministry said on its official Twitter account. , Friday (31/12).
Iran insists Washington bears definitive international responsibility for Soleimani's killing. The statement came as Iran was about to mark the second anniversary of Soleimani's death. The commemoration will be coupled with a missile exhibition on January 7, 2022.
Major General Qassem Soleimani was killed at Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020. He was killed while in a convoy of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an Iraqi paramilitary force with ties to Iran. Their motorcade was targeted by US drones. Trump was the one who directly ordered the attack.
Iran strongly condemns Soleimani's killing and vows to retaliate against Washington's actions. Shortly after the assassination, Iran launched air strikes on US military bases in Iraq. The action had raised global concerns about the potential for war to break out.
Soleimani is an Iranian military figure who has great influence in the Middle East region. He is entrusted with commanding the Quds Force, a division or wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guards responsible for extraterritorial operations, including counter-intelligence in the region.
