Japan's Atomic Energy Agency JAEA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will work with the United States and venture firm Bill Gates to build a high-tech nuclear reactor in Wyoming.
The Yomiuri daily, Saturday, January 1, 2021, reported that the JAEA and Mitsubishi would sign an agreement in early January to provide technical support and data from Japan's own advanced nuclear reactor, the report quoted several sources as saying.
The US government will provide funds to cover half of the $4 billion or nearly 57 trillion project.
The United States has been competing with China and Russia, which also hope to build and export advanced reactors.
Both JAEA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries could not be reached for comment, as their offices were closed for the New Year holidays.
